cPanel and WHM Configurations

I’ve noticed that cPanel and WHM are somewhat inconsistent (mainly with EasyApache) in if they update/modify a configuration file or overwrite it. Here are some common gotchas: Will the Tweak Settings feature in WHM nuke my configuration? It appears not. This modifies a cPanel configuration, not your php.ini or other system configurations.

Missing ISO writing in Ubuntu Lucid?

I like to right click .iso files and write them to a CD or DVD, since I really hate large settings dialogs with burning software – far too much stuff to break. I noticed that my Ubuntu 10.4 Beta (Lucid Lynx) was missing the brasero package, and the Write to Disc option in the nautilus

A Bazaar List of Things

So I’ve been doing a lot of work with Bazaar version control. I’ve used it in the past on some projects, and integrated it to keep multiple environments synchronized, but recently I had to do a lot more with it. Here are some questions and answers: What happens if I push a file that already

Cutting the Fat from a MediaWiki Install

Installing a MediaWiki is great, and I try to have a lot of them for different projects. I try to make them as small as possible to avoid using a lot of unwarranted disk space. Here are two quick tips that will take the size of a standard installation from 40 MB to less than

Compiz Mind Control

I’ve been  looking at the Developer Nanoheadset ($500) by Emotiv and will likely be purchasing one to fiddle with. My first idea was to add a plugin to 0.9.0 so that we can have a Brain Input, much like the keyboard and mouse input dialogs now. You could map some kind of brain activity, such

Compiz Documentation Update

As the release for Compiz 0.9.0 gets closer, now is a good time to let everyone know what I’ve been most involved with: Documenting the API. Until recently, there was no API documentation for Compiz. You really have to admire the amount of time the core developers and others have spent working with a system

Rhythmbox & Pidgin Music Sharing

Getting music from the internet is no difficult task, but that’s not quite the same as sharing music. If anyone remembers the post 2000 rise in peer-to-peer (P2P) software, such as Kazaa, Gnutella, and eDonkey, then I think you know what I’m talking about. It was always nice to see what someone else like if

Upload to imgur.com in Ubuntu

A while ago I went to add support for the awesome Shutter Project, which makes capturing your desktop and uploading to the FTP or web very quick and elegant. However, they did inform me that their plugin system isn’t ready for prime-time, and it does require some hacking of the original sources to include your plugin

Eclipse Bug Workaround

There is a bug that crashes Eclipse in the latest versions of Ubuntu right now. It involves one of the most used features: Content Assist. You know, pressing Ctrl+Space to show objects, methods, or variable information quickly. The problem is actually not with Eclipse or Java, but (as usual) some of the native components –

My Rhythmbox PPA

Ubuntu has been changing some things around with it’s notification icons and GNOME applets. Specifically the volume, power, e-mail and Rhythmbox applets. I could stand for most of that, but don’t mess with my music. My main complaint is that being part of the indicator-applet has broke some things I like, such as quickly showing/hiding
